As a requirement for Katsy's Portfolio & Branding class, they were required to develop there own personal brand and corresponding collaterals, including a logo, business cards, demo reel, and a website among others. She created a cohesive branding scheme that reflected who was she as an illustrator, designer, and human, applied it to these collaterals, and currently use them to promote her work.

The concept of Katsy's personal branding was to merge quirky illustrator with organized designer, showcasing her versatility and personality as an artist and designer. She wanted to keep her logo simple but distinct, so she used her own handwriting with a little bit of flair. Katsy decided not to make a personal icon or logo because she want to be remembered for her name and the name behind the work, not her logo plastered over something. For the font, she used Brandon Grotesque because it's simple and friendly. She also chose to use warm yellow for her brand because it's her favorite color and it is versatile; it can be perceived as positive and friendly, but also stands out strongly as a distinct color.

Katsy used traditional media, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign and Adobe AfterEffects + Premiere, and Sublime to create and develop the different collaterals for this project.

For the main branding elements, she rendered the logo traditionally using a brush pen, scanned it, and adjusted it in Illustrator. The same process goes for the other visual elements such as the illustrated peace signs and bacon, and the additional visual elements in the demo reel.

For the business cards and website designs, she laid them out in Photoshop before heading to printing and development.

For the print portfolio, she laid it out using InDesign before having it printed.

The demo reel was shot with the help of some of her friends using a Canon 70D and a tripod. The demo reel was edited using both Adobe Aftereffects for the visual elements and Adobe Premiere for the video editing.

When Katsy first presented the project in class, her professor and fellow classmates really liked the brand. Many of her friends would remark that the branding collaterals she created were "so her". Potential clients, family members, and networking associates also really like her business card (which she is particularly proud of.) When Katsy uploaded her project on Behance, she was really surprised that it was so well-received by the Behance community. Up to this day it is still her most appreciated and viewed project on her Behance profile.

Katsy guess she learned that when you create work that you truly love and that reflects the kind of art and design that personally resonates with who you are, people can see that, and they will appreciate the soul you put into your work.

  1. Wow that is one of the best self-branding I've seen. I bet your clients get quite a good reaction when they see the printed book. That's a great idea
