2nd European Film Festival - Slemani
This cultural event, the second ever to be organized in Kurdistan, screened a variety of European films over six days at two special venues in Slemani. The selected films showcased Europe’s cultural diversity as well as presented the richness and versatile nature of the EU Member States' film industries.
I was given the responsibility to create a design that would communicate the film festivals message.
We knew that elements commonly used in the film industry would highlight best the events mission. Yet, Another important visual that we wanted to play with was the regional brightness and diversity of Kurdistan, the host of the festival. Combining these two stories would give birth to the Film Festivals symbol.
We used Photoshop for graphics. Illustrator for logo and iconography. Indesign for Flyers and a 40+ page brochure.
Multiple sketches were made. Type, shapes, national attire patterns were implemented.
The final rendering was brought to life from earth. It was given the form of a film projector. National Kurdistan bracelets serve as film discs. I began calling it: “ The Mud Logo”.
It was very well received, the event being broadcasted by Kurdistan's largest tv networks.
The design was incorporated into every aspect of the event starting from the little badges the organizers wore all the way to the Festivals trailer.
This was a great collaboration with Vinci.iq. I think that it made me more open to such collaborations. Also this was a totally new style for me. The fact that I took on a culture I knew little about pushed me out of my comfort zone to explore with new colors and styles. This is the result.
