Lucie Zajíčková's graphic design/typohraphy for Annie a berlepsové, is a children's book by Czech author Vendula Borůvková. A heart-warming adventure tale about thirteen-year-old Annie, who travels from the Malaysian jungle to olden-days Tibet and back again. It is illustrated by Czech illustrator Jindřich Janíček. Annie a berlepsové was published in 2014 by publishing house Host and it has 202 print pages.

In this project, the strongest inspiration were Jindřich Janíček’s illustrations. I wanted them to stand out, so I made the rest as simple as possible. The book Annie a berlepsové is printed in three colours only – two pantone colours for illustrations and chapter openings, and the black one for the text. For book cover I chose cream luxurious paper with soft texture, which is pleasant to feel. This paper was a good choice also for the illustrations – the colours are mellow and rich, well saturated. A purple bookmark ribbon is a functional and good-looking detail.

My style is based on simple and clean layouts and typography using quality, mostly czech typefaces (in this case Comenia Serif by František Štorm, StormTypeFoundry). I like to design the children's publications, cooperate with illustrators and make nice books for many kids to grow up with. My big passion are Tim Burton's movies, which are the immense source of inspiration, not only for artists and designers.

About Lucie Zajíčková

Lucie Zajíčková is a graphic designer focusing in book design and book typography. She studied the Visual Communication in Zlin, Czech Republic and have been working in field of graphic design nearly for 10 years. Currently she work in a publishing house called Host in Brno, Czech Republic. Lucie design the covers of new Czech and foreign fiction novels, scientific publications, children's books and young adult literature. She work with Czech bestselling authors Jiří Hájíček, Petra Dvořáková and Radka Denemarková. She also design the covers of czech editions of fiction books by Caitlin Moran, Mons Kallentoft, Sabaa Tahir, Dörte Hansen and more. During her work in Host, she have participated on more than 50 published books.
