Art of Re-Selfing – is a series about exploring different states of mind in metaphoric way. An abstract representation of myself, a reflection of the world within.
The best way to describe it in one sentence is: “Never imagine yourself not to be otherwise than what it might appear to others that what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared to them to be otherwise.”
I started this project inspired by self-portraits of great artists. Particularly by works of Albrecht Dürer, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Edgar Degas, M. C. Escher, Jan Gossaert and Salvador Dali. The idea was to fill digital images with aesthetics of those masterpieces, focusing on conceptual as well as visual aspect.
I create images mostly of items which I found in a closet, kitchen and garden. The lighting is quite simple – just one or two soft-boxes. The Editing programs that were used for this are Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom. Not much, just some shadows and highlights adjustment and a skin texture correction was made.
I`m happy with the result but I didn`t expect such a massive respond on this series of photographs. This encourages me to go further exploring ways for optimal balance between classical arts and modern media.
