Graphic Designer Samantha Willey wanted to emphasize the craft beer of the Badger State Brewing making process since the beer was being brewed on site. Badger State Brewing Co. is an award-winning craft brewery located in Green Bay, Wisconsin in the Lambeau Field “Stadium District”.

If you start at the top left, the illustration follows the hops through the grinder, brewing stages, and all the way up to the where the beer goes into the keg.The beer making process starts with a great idea, which is represented with the light bulb in the top left corner. A paper airplane with the idea written on it, guides the viewer through the beer making process by floating around the machinery. We were really inspired by vintage apothecary/lab illustrations, so I incorporated science symbols and a little area for the brewer to hand-write the name/style of the beer, date and batch number.

I like to work in a variety of styles, so I don’t want to pigeon hole myself into any one category. I definitely enjoy more playful, vector-based illustration though. Although I find inspiration all across the web, I enjoy looking at work from Stephen Powers and Jessica Hische. They’re both incredibly talented designers/typographers/all around artists that I aspire to be as good as one day. I also love looking at Lürzer’s Archive magazine for creative advertising inspiration.

If you have an idea that you really believe in, see it through. Write it down. Sketch it out. Develop it. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes or fail. Who knows where it will go or what it will evolve in to. It may even inspire some of your other work.
