Bali is such a beautiful Island with so many hidden surprises. Photographer Colin Anderson wanted to show "The Bali" that took his breathe away. I had a couple of locations that I knew would shoot well but we found so many great locations when not even looking.

I knew I wanted to shoot rice fields. We came across this particular location while driving home from the elephant shoot. Luckily we had our props and clothing in the car with us. As soon as I saw the location the ideas came to me of what I wanted to do with it. Shooting was the easy part you couldn't take a bad shot in that location. The Black temple I saw by chance when returning from a location hunt. I knew straight away I wanted a red outfit to stand out against the black. This was a great opportunity to use our driver in the shots too.

The elephant shoot was the most difficult of all the shoots. Even though we had an elephant trainer present we still faced many challenges. I wanted to showcase the beautiful backdrops that bali has to offer so most of the time I matched costumes with the location using colours that compliment the scene. I tried to keep the image simple but with enough drama to hold interest

Everything was shot on a canon 5DSR and Canon lenses. Software wise I use Capture One Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Eizo Color Edge Monitor and Wacom 24" HD Cintiq and a Mac Pro computer. All the images in this series were shot early morning to take advantage of the beautiful tropical light and to escape the relentless heat. We found the heat unbearable and so difficult to shoot in. It was amazing that the camera handled the heat so well. A lot of the locations were far away so we would need to leave extremely early to arrive by sunrise. Having a model with us made shooting a lot easier and allowed us to take advantage of photo opportunities as they arose.

The response has been extremely positive. I was a little surprised to say the least. We learnt a lot from this project, lots and lots of research and forward planning. We had allowed a few days at the start of the trip to check out locations but due to the long distances this became to time consuming. We had to take chances that the location would work out. We soon realised the importance of taking a large wardrobe and props with us in the car as it was important that the wardrobe compliment its surrounding environment. These images will soon be available for licensing on blendimages.com
