Bar Ginger is a branding project for a whiskey bar located in Hong Kong Central. Besides the visual identity which express their background story, one of the challenges our artist encountered is putting large amount of items in the menu. Let's check out this amazing art set!

We spent a while to understand information about whiskey and wine, try to make the easiest way for customer to search for their favorite. From research and development to production, we spent around 2 months time. Bar Ginger has a background story about climbing over a wall with a ladder, we use the ladder as key element and merge with the letter ‘G', this communicates about the background story and give some hints for their name ‘Ginger’.

The art direction of branding is a sum of art deco and contemporary style, we try to cooperate with the interior design in art deco style and apply new ideas for typography and graphic to make this brand classic yet fresh, strengthen the whole experience for customer visiting Bar Ginger.

Normally when we receive the brief of a branding project, we start by collecting a lot of information about their background and business nature. We study and learn for ensure we understand our client more before design for them. Just like this time when we design for a bar, we learn knowledge about whiskey and wine, this helps a lot on our idea generating in later stage and align our thinking with client.

For design idea, after we realized few key features or elements, we make lots of drafts, review, take out those bad ideas and repeat this process until find out good ideas in the limited time frame. These distilled ideas then develop into a more finished designs, we start making dummy for material testing and solving practical problems.

Our idea seems generate in a systematic way, but I believe when we manage by a system, the creative magic will happen in between steps and inspirations will come from our living.

For design software,we use adobe Indesign and illustrator. For Applications printing in this project, we use offset printing, riso printing on varies un-coat paper stock.
