Boticario - Label Design by Fabienne Plangger
Fabienne Plangger's "BOTICARIO" is a brand/label design for a rum bottle, which produces a little Bar called "The Box Barcelona". They asked him to create an identity for their new product, with a modern, elegant touch, but still seeing the "roots" of rum and the connection to the bar.
Boticario (engl. apothecary) is an old expression for pharmacist. The apothecaries made investigations about herbal and chemical substances and these are now the base of the modern pharmacology. Therefor we chose pharmaceutical glass bottles and a bold serif font, to maintain somehow an olden style. The Box Barcelona's Logo contains a big red heart and they wanted me to keep working with it for the Label Design. As the product is made in Barcelona, I wanted to present that graphically through the design - I came up with the idea, using the Bar's Logo heart in its normal way, and - upside down - together it reflects a well-known Barcelona symbol, the panot flower. I created 3 different color systems for the hearts, which they are using now depending on the color of the ingredient/liquid.

Basically I just used Illustrator and Indesign. Illustrator in the beginning for creating the heart icon and afterwards with Indesign choosing typography, size, colors and style. My client needed two different designs, saying one for a 500ml bottle and one for a 60ml bottle, which was a little tricky because the smaller one doesn't offer a lot of space for design. A lot of people think it's some type of smoothie - for sure because of the colorful design and that some bottles got fruits inside. But I think it's a nice statement, our intention was to create something modern and shiny, different to the others.
