This set of candle holders were designed while doing an exploration of endemic materials during a workshop. The result was a set of candleholders that blend the different aesthetic properties of each material, creating an interesting composition of forms and textures.

It was based in an activity where endemic materials where gathered and then assigned to each group of designers.

The materials that where given to us was Marble (high density), Wood (medium density), and Tule (a natural fiber used for crafts, low density).

In such a short time we needed to improvise with the tools we have at the workshop, which are mostly used to work wood and steel. We started cutting the marble with some tools until we find a way. That is the best part of a new project, the feeling of not knowing what is going to happen until it happens.

It was interesting working on a project that it´s only intention was to create a visual composition with such different materials that have a huge cultural ideology; the Tule is usually associated with craft and low budget objects, unlike Marble that is linked with luxury. The combination of these two perceptions of the materials propose a new dialogue.
