Matthew Sharp's 'chalk.' is an online zine that playfully explores the role of CGI in advertising and design. The aim was to create an array of imaginary and realistic items but to never dismiss their connections to the digital environments in which they were conceived.

Many of the work featured in the project were a mixture of already existing and original designs. The tea set design's were originally created by Philip Bailey using paper and paint. I loved the playfulness of this set and the physicality of the broad brush stroke pattern was something I wished to emulate in the CG replica. The other original designs were conceived through sketches and colour/material tests, I wanted to achieve a design that would work best when in a space that would compliment its colour and form.

My main inspirations for this project were emerging illustrators and artists looking at 3D in new and exciting ways bordering on the experimental. Most notably of these artists was Anny Wang. I would describe my style as ever-changing as I get bored easily and find it productive to change methods in which I work. I guess a common trend in my work however would be that I tend to make dramatic colour choices and I always tend to simplify compositions as much as possible.

Advice would be to always have something creative to do. This could be simply sketching to fill time or an ongoing project. It's always important to have ideas ticking over in your head.
