Check Payment App by Cassandra Cappello
The Check payment app allows users to pay for purchases using their debit, credit, or loyalty cards by simply tapping their cell phone to the terminal. This digital wallet allows you to send money easily and pay more quickly online and in stores. Check is also designed to be secure; users must input their pin codes when opening the app, and when they pay with their credit and debit cards. The minimal design makes it easy to navigate and keep track of your funds.
I initially looked at other payment apps in order to see what they offered users and also what users would be used to when it comes to using this type of app. Payment apps have pretty straight forward requirements so once I fleshed that out and I got to the visual design portion of the project I really just wanted to make it look electric. I intended it to be simple but striking; using bold colours to make a finance related app more exciting.

The Google Wallet app was my biggest inspiration for the design; it clearly outlines everything a payment app should have and organizes it in a way that is easy and just makes sense. I wanted my app to do the same. But on a more personal level I wanted to take on a project that pushed my boundaries as a designer. I don't get the chance to design many apps but they are probably my favourite kind of project.

I'd have to say that its minimalism is what sets it apart from other similar apps. Mainly because I've utilized the style in such a way that it allows for extreme ease of use. Though I'm very sure I'm not the only person to do this, but I believe its simplicity adds to its charm.

My style is relatively minimal with a focus on strong typography and bold colours. Colour has been the cornerstone of my work since I can remember. I'm not the type of person who thinks of putting more things on a page than necessary. While I think a decorative style is beautiful it's just not how I think about design.

My best advice actually comes from my first design professor in university; don't over think it. Let the ideas flow through your mind and get them down on paper. If they're bad ideas then the worst you can do is simply not use them. There's no fault in having bad ideas, you need them to find the good ones. I was definitely an over thinker when I began my degree, and I know many other designers who do the same. They always wonder if their design is good or if they are doing it right. I feel like that's a recipe for disaster and I created far better designs once I let go during the early stages of the design process.

Very nice job! Simple grid and usability. Great!
This is genius! I wish that I could have come up with this first; it is that good. Not to mention how great it could work for those who struggle with money management. Excellent idea.
Looks great, love the simplicity and the color scheme.
