I love experimenting with collage, I think it’s a very flexible medium where everything is allowed. Also it’s something where I can be me and do whatever I please. Unlike my work as an editorial designer where everything is very rigid and has a very specific function, there are no rules here, so there is no margin for error, it is simply to make you want to take something personal and materialize it into an image.
I have always liked to do collage, due to my inability to draw. I’m building series, in each one I’m exploring with different ways to approach it. One of the driving threads of my work is the use of typography as a constant, I value much what it can communicate with its roots, beyond which we can read or not in it.
When I build the collages I really do not know what is going to happen. I start by looking for a central image, that is able to sustain the plot of the piece, that is strong and that tells a story, and around this I build the composition.
I think that as creator of collage I have my own voice and my own aesthetic and that is appreciated. I do not think you learn much to see them, it’s just a visual and sometimes aesthetic experience. It is a discipline of illustration very rich and that allows to exercise the use and distribution that we give to elements of design and to the images.
