Emily Everett's project was a shoot for her client Dandy Boutique, a local boutique in her previous 'home' of Charleston, SC. Dandy Boutique carry vintage inspired clothing, accessories, home goods and the owner herself, Holly, hand-makes bridal headpieces and flower crowns. The headpieces features in this project were made from vintage dried flowers.

For this project we found a "Charleston" plantation type location to shoot her latest pieces as well as some fall inspired flower crowns. The girls whipped of their shoes and we explored the area and shot in a couple various scenes. The models were Natalie Taylor, a local artist, and Venita Aspen, a women of all trades. Makeup was done by: Rebecca Marts.

I consider my style to be very raw and simple. I shoot only with natural light and don’t use a bunch of editing software to make everything look airbrushed. I strive to capture each personality and usually find myself wanting to shoot individuals who are shy and maybe even uncomfortable in front of the camera. It is challenging and so enticing to capture pure emotion and feelings. While shooting film, I like to create surreal or weird self portraits and double exposures. I enjoy using the post process of Mordancage on film images and these can be seen on my website. You can read about that process here.

I am inspired by beautiful landscapes and the natural beauty of people. The ocean/mountain combo here in Seattle has me hungry to get shooting. I find myself daydreaming on every bus or ferry ride, wishing I had someone to capture in each glorious moment. As far as fellow artists who inspire me; I really love the work of photographer and artist Alexandra Valenti. She creates these amazing images with mixed media. I first found her work in a Free People catalog, which is also on my list of dream jobs.

My one piece of advice to aspiring artists is to work and work and work at what you love. Find a style that makes your medium unique and special. Even if you aren’t getting paid or making money with your artwork.. keep practicing and you will only improve. Someday the right person will see it and they will fall in love with it. I still consider myself an aspiring artist, even after shooting professionally for a couple of years. There is always so much to learn. Until (if ever) I can quit my day job, I will keep pushing myself and continue to find inspiration in my surroundings.

I shoot with an older Nikon D200 and love my 35mm portrait lens as well as a 17-55mm. For my medium format film, I shoot with a Lubitel 166 Universal.
