We are in for a treat today. Our artist used a technical pen, known as "rapidograph" in making his arts. A technical pen is a specialized instrument used by an engineer, architect, or drafter to make lines of constant width for architectural, engineering, or technical drawings. Mikolaj discovered that using "rapidograph" enhances his art details, and is way better than using ordinary graphic pencils. Read on and check out the amazing details!

Graphics were made for different kind of projects - from book's illustrations, to tattoo designs. Some of them were also used by clothing brands. Drawings firstly are precisely planned and sketched, then they are finished by using "rapidographs" with black ink, dry pastels, markers.

Rapidographs are made for technical drawings and I had to use them at my University. I realized that they create very thin and clean lines, much better than using "normal" pencils. I decided to try rapidographs in traditional drawing.

I thought that the best topic to use their advantages are animals because it will be possible to draw fur, feather etc. with keeping high level of details.

I always try to improve my works and skills. When design is finished I'm thinking what could be done better or different. I think that sometimes self-criticism and drawing conclusion improves my technique much more than starting another graphic.

Sometimes I add skulls and skeletons to make the project more interesting. I use many photos of the animals as references while working on each drawing to make my concepts anatomically correct.

Mikolaj Cielniak is a student of Master Studies at faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning based in Poland. He graduated from High School of Art where he started to be interested in illustration, graphic design, and photography. Mikolaj is a man of few words, he wants his arts to speak for him.
