Dan Hoopert's project "The Digital Portraits" project began after playing with the 3D scanning capabilities of kinect for xbox 360, despite the quality not being the best he liked, there's something about the style of these imperfect scans.

Basically, the inspiration behind this project was looking into different ways of generating forms. In terms of 3D I wouldn't say I have a particular style yet, I'm still playing around with whatever I find interesting.

The best advice I can give is if you really want to learn then you should pursue it, after all, there's a tutorial for everything! I used Cinema 4D / Photoshop / Kinect for Xbox 360 to make this project.
