Dan Mumford's "The Earth Itself, Shall Rise Above, And Tower Over All" is a Triptych print series. It was created for a gallery show at Hero Complex Gallery called Young Guns that took place in early 2015. It depicts a surreal fantasy landscape ruined by old gods, the sort of place i could happily get lost in.

There was no brief or overall theme to the gallery show other than to showcase your style and make some artwork which you wanted to create. I wanted to try to create something that was larger and more detailed than i had ever done before so I came up with the triptych idea, a series which was 3 Screenprints that worked on their own, but ultimately created a larger landscape piece. It draws on my love of fantasy, scifi and all things surreal.

It was created completely in photoshop on a wacom cintiq. There were no special filters or brushes used, it's all pretty standard, I try to just create artwork like I would with a pen and paper, but by doing it digitally it allows me a lot more freedom. It was created in layers as the end product was a screenprint.

People responded really nicely, it was one of the first personal projects where I had been able to spend a lot of time on it. Normally I would be limited to one or two days to create something, but with this I took 2-3 weeks on and off to get lots of detail in there and the composition just right. So overall it certainly made me think more about creating more personal work that wasn't directly client based.
