Giglea is an event-based social networking that keeps memories alive way after the encounter has ended. We tried to make the very complex app easy-to-use for its users. For example you can have a gig that starts now and ends when you leave (imagine, you create the gig just in a couple of clicks!), or it starts in a month’s time and your friends can join any time till that date or corporates can indeed create gigs for the whole year for staff and customers to join in. At Plainwhite, I’m responsible for the visual design, including websites, complex web apps, iOS apps and app icons. In this project (as in the others) we worked in team with our front-end developer and our back-end developer. Together we thought over the UX and usability, we tested the build and fixed possible issues, only after I designed all the needed assets of the app.

Giglea is very complex app. The most challenging part was to design the “Create Gig” flow, which should be intuitive and creative at the same time. We spent much time working on different design solutions, trying to implement all the features this app has to have in the end. And we nailed it! I think that the successful project is clear and well-coordinated work of all the team members, and I’m happy to work with my team.

I can find an inspiration everywhere. Our life is surrounded by design, the beautiful architecture of the city where I live, the landscape I see through my window, movies, books, people, music, artists, other designers.. There're so many things we can get an inspiration from! Definitely, other designers’ work may become an inspiration for me. Mo matter what the designer is doing - video promotion, motion graphics, or the same work as you do. There’re a lot of creative people around the world, and I think about it in a positive manner, together we all make our lives better. Follow the rules, and when you feel you know them, break them, be creative!

About Maria Shanina

Maria Shanina is a mobile & web designer. Together with her husband they're running their own boutique development studio Plainwhite. Maria and her husband primarily work on clients’ projects with clients all around the world, designing and developing iOS apps, web apps, and landing pages; drawing logos and app icons. They create everything from scratch, starting with an UI/UX overview and bringing good usability to every project. Recently, she received the NNGroup UX Specialist Certificate, in which she's very proud of, because the Nielsen Norman Group team are the pioneers in Usability and Research.
