While in school, like many people, Marc Thomasset drew and wrote text all the time out of the notebooks margins, driving some of his teachers crazy (He had to properly rewrite entire pages sometimes, teachers weren’t always fond of his customizations). He believes that we always need space outside of the rules to think freely. This is the sentiment he wanted to convey when one would be writing or drawing in the Inspiration Pad.

The Inspiration Pad was born while I was working in an advertising agency. I was drawing projects in a notebook when suddenly it hit me how a classic notebook, however beautiful, is always very rigid and grid like. I wanted to make one that would inspire people, give them more freedom than their school notebooks did. After a few years, I decided to selfproduce it. Which has been a great experience.

Minimal and timeless would be two words that describe what I try to achieve in every project. I’ve always been fascinated by creators that bring a twist to usual objects, that make you look at them differently.

I think curiosity is one of the important traits of talented creative people. The more dots you take in, the more dots you might connect to produce great work. Doing side projects is a great way to try other type of work than the ones you do for your clients. Today’s technologies enable people to produce side projects that were pretty much unreachable a few years ago. We live in exciting times for creative people.

About Marc Thomasset

After working as a purely conceptual Art Director in several advertising agencies, Marc Thomasset wanted to experiment the crafting side of projects himself, working on illustrations, branding, web design. He began working for direct clients, taking jobs he had never crafted himself before, and worked like hell to get a result he was satisfied with. It’s a hard and exciting way to train, and as a result he learned a lot and was able to expand the scope of projects he does.
