Anchor watcher is a simply tool that help you to be a bit more safe in sea, in a nutshell it monitoring your position and alert you when you are going outside a certain area, most of the time it mean that you have lost your anchor.

Me and Manuele (the other guys who develops the app) are both born in the seaside of the Tuscany (Italy) and as former employees in Navionics (a global leader in electronic charts and marine navigation) we well known how the sailor care about security and how the software on this environment need an improvement and me more friendly and less engineering.

A user that need an app like Anchor Watcher need to have just two features: one is a way to see the weather and sea conditions and an other one to set a secure. To solve the first issue i’v been inspired by classic marine plotter UI giving it just more appealing. To solve the problem of how to set a safety area, i’ve started from the fact that an anchored boat / ship draw a circle and this is the safety area, so a circle how a radar it seemed like a good idea, Everything have a flat style except the elements on the radar witch are in skeumorphic style this is because it stand up better and are more recognizable. ( and because i love the romantic era of the skeu. design )

My inspiration for this project, even if you do not see it. I really love cyberpunk, steampunk and everything that is about the future and sci-fi, (even as the future was seen in the past ) so for this project I was inspired by the old oscilloscope screen and by the ship's porthole.

There are a lot of anchor guard app into the stores, what sets my work apart is that I just tried to do something more usable and appealing. Something done thinking to a sailor and not done as designer. As I've said, I love cyberpunk and a lot of my design culture come from it but at the end my products don’t seems owned by this kind of world. My favourite visual artists are Rob Sheridan, Alberto Seveso and R▲. Don’t try to be an innovative artist, just try do be a good designer.

Marco Nenzi is a Mobile app designer with a high passion for human behaviours. He was born in Tuscany, Italy. He studied Virtual Design at IED ( European Institute od Design ) in Rome, after his studies he played the role of print designer on some agencies in Rome then in 2009 he went back to his first love, the UI design. He loves to work on mobile and from 2009 he has designed 12 apps (and 5 of them hit the first position on their charts) which are published on the stores with clients which comes from United States, UK, Russia, Lebanon, Denmark, France, and of course Italy.
