Mexico based illustrator Amanda Corona's The “Ladybug” project was actually a painting practice. She just drew a quick sketch of this character and decided to paint it with soft brushes. Amanda's ladybug will change how you define "ladybug", now let's see what she came up with.

It was really spontaneous. I just had finished watching an episode of the series and wanted to portray the protagonist, so I started the sketch with a flirtatious smile and to make it more dynamic, I added motion to her hair and shoulders. When painting, I wanted to emphasize in her eyes and smile, trying to make the character look more “lively”.

The inspiration behind the project was the character design of Ladybug which I think is super cute. I really liked it a lot, especially the suit and how she’s mixed race. I think she is a very strong and intelligent super heroine.

I would describe my style as spontaneous, because I like to draw and paint in many ways using different color palettes... doing at times lineart or simply doing a lineless painting; sometimes cartoonish, sometimes realistic. I feel inspired by artists like Norman Rockwell, Katsushiro Otomo, James Harvey, Kaneoya Sachiko, Mingjue Helen Chen and Natali Koromoto.

My best advice to aspiring artists is to never give up. Be constant, draw a lot, accept positive criticism and you’ll see the results.
