A Leave of Absence - Costa Rica
A Leave of Absence is the documented escape from my ordinary routine. Every now and then, a person working full time needs a break, a chance to catch their breath. I've made it a point to travel during such intermissions, and to chronicle my experiences through photography. The first edition of the project features a collection of photographs taken on my trip to the beach town of Samara, Costa Rica. While it might be impossible to capture the full beauty of the region's tranquil vistas, here are some of my favorite shots.
There wasn't a whole lot of thought behind. I was going on vacation and I wanted to make sure I made something to remember it by. I always like to have personal projects when I'm designing for a client. There are no rules. You are designing for yourself.
I used my Canon T3i camera, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Indesign.
The process was simple. I first started by taking all the photos, followed by editing them in Photoshop, and then designed the book layout in InDesign.
The part that took the longest was the photo editing. To get an entire set of photos to all look similar can sometimes be a long and exhausting process.
I feel people generally liked the book.
I haven't put a lot of photography out, so it's nice to see an appreciation of what I have.
I've learned that documenting personal vacations is a great way to share work. I will continue to document all my travels with a designed book.
