If you’re given a chance, what would you say to your younger self? Colombian Illustrator Fulvio Obregon with his recent project – Me and My Other Me depicts a young and present state of famous figures. His project shows the ‘two-sides’ of life of these influencers, one as a young and budding professional trying to make it and other one as established version of themselves. Fulvio’s work gives us a glimpse of these people’s lives and what they have achieved.
Regarding the project “Me and My Other Self”, I was inspired to base it from a picture of my cousin. It shows her as a child and how she now appeared, I sat down and got the ideas to apply it to famous figures. This made the project more interesting since it somehow shows what they’ve been through. How they struggled and worked hard to reach their dream – to be who they are now.
As with the design process, I searched their pictures on the internet and saved some references of their young and present state. Example was young Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in the movies The Panic in Needle Park, Taxi Driver and The Godfather II. I sketched it on paper at first, scanned it an redraw it digitally with a tablet and applied colors and polished it with Photoshop. I am very inspired by brilliant people, people with a good story, music, fashion, pop culture, movies and times that marked trends. My work mainly consists of pop culture and trends.
I remember a saying of Walt Disney: “If you can dream it, you can do it”. I think this a good mantra. Also, believe in yourself and do not lose the desire, take risks to do what they can think of, I’ve noticed that when you take the first step to anything, you get a lot of good things much more than what you expected.
