Medical App is a portal by UI/UX designer, Agnieszka Zimoląg. It that enables the users to find clinics or plastic surgery. This app is also very powerful since it allows you to search based on what you need - like you can search for a body parts and it will come up with a tailored result for what surgery can be done in that body part.

The medical application design comes from the assignment I got from the company I freelance for. So the app is for the portal that has the database with the plastic surgery doctors as well as clinics. The purpose of the app is to search for doctors and clinics but it acts also like your personal search guide. Let me explain what it means. The app allows you to search for specific doctors depending what type of surgery you want to have. I have designed a search based on the body parts. So you click on a certain body part that you want to operate and it takes you to the search results.

I wanted the app to have this clinical sterical but also very elegant, minimalist look focusing on the quality and simplicity of the search process. My goal was to create an app that works a bit like doctor advising you what to do. Personal medical guide. I also wanted to make a design appealing not only to woman but also for men. Another aspect of this app is that the portal comes from the Mediterranean part of the Europe I wanted to make it a bit reflecting the climate over there. I used some transparency and gave it a bit watery look with some half transparent elements. So it fits this region.

I think for all the designs I do I am inspired by my artistic practice that i have on the side. I love to take photos of technological surfaces. I try to observe through the camera how the surfaces, colors, textures combine together. I think what i do on the side is strongly reflected in my app designs. My style is based on simplicity. I like minimalist designs almost a bit like illustrations. I put a huge focus on the choice of colors as i believe colors can create certain feelings in the user and that’s what you want from the user to engage with the app on many levels. I like smoothness and accessibility.

For me designing an app is like for fashion designer creating a cloth. I treat my designs like a dress that needs all those details to be worked out. So the elements need to be in a certain style to fit the mood of the app. I always give myself a certain theme when i start designing to help me out with directing my thoughts and choices. Basically my goal is to create a luxury product that is a pleasure to look at and also to use it. I think i actually get lots of inspirations from illustrators, photographers as well as fashion designers. So not necessarily app designs however there are some which I really admire, to name few: PaulFlavius Nechita, Yalantis, Tubik Studio, Nina Geometrieva, Owi Sixseven and much much more.

I think I like that my apps are a sensual experience for the user. As a graphic designer I am searching for visual solutions that I have never seen before. As I come from graphic design background I also like to experiment with typography and really make it a part of the visual experience I create. I try to incorporate the visuals that I dream of into the app designs. So I believe my apps have more sensitivity and interesting visuals in terms of color solutions and how minimalist they are.

I think at some point I am trying to create my own family of designs, my own field within design. I guess you can see a passion to the aesthetics behind the apps and I really want to bring app design to a new level. I think it can really be a piece of useful art and we should go for it as designers to create this visual awareness that aesthetic can actually communicate with the users.

I would say that it is important to search for your own style because clients will come to you for your style. So don’t be afraid to make something that nobody has done before. Be brave and search for inspirations everywhere. Search for those elements in the design that passionate you and personalize them. The more designs you do the quicker you will discover what style fascinates you. The more you work the more ideas come to your head and the designs will just formulate in your head. If you have certain ideas for the app make it happen in your free time. Clients will find you because they like your unique way of looking at things so really try to be different and just be passionate about what you do. Research a lot. Redefine your style over and over again.

About Agnieszka Zimoląg

She always wanted to do something different from the other people in her class so that’s why she decided to go to art school. She acquired her bachelor's degree at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie at the graphic design department, currently she's taking her Master's degree at Sandberg Institute - graphic design department as well. Agnieszka has always been attracted to the visuals surrounding us, colors and textures. But what fascinates her the most is how those textures are represented on a screen. Screen gives this another dimension to the design that always fascinated her. She's also attracted to architecture and she thinks that building apps is a bit like constructing this system where all elements must be in balance and cooperate with each other in a visually interesting way. Agnieszka loves aesthetics, screen, technology, virtuality. See more of her works on Behance.
