Our design firm - Sonuvo Design - received the hard task to create a futuristic looking training centre for doctors equipped with the latest cutting edge technologies, VR and AR. To achieve it we've involved the art one of the biggest humanist ever lived, Leonardo da Vinci. As the design director and the leader of the design team i've used the english term of "operating theatre" as the base to develop this concept design.

"Historically, the term "operating theatre" referred to a non-sterile, tiered theatre or amphitheater in which students and other spectators could watch surgeons perform surgery. Contemporary operating rooms are devoid of a theatre setting (though some in teaching hospitals may have small galleries), making the term "operating theatre" a misnomer for the modern facility." /https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operating_theater/
I used this description as base for our design concept. The shape of the bending
glass waves are forming the original shape of the “operating theatre” where everybody
seated around and watched the operation itself. These walls framing the floor pattern
(printed on EGE carpet) Leonardo da Vinci’s most famous drawing the “Vitruvian Man”
appears. The drawing is based on the correlations of ideal human proportions with
geometry described by the ancient Roman architect Vitruvius in Book III of his treatise De
architectura. "Vitruvius described the human figure as being the principal source of
proportion among the classical orders of architecture. Vitruvius determined that the ideal
body should be eight heads high. Leonardo's drawing is traditionally named in honour of
the architect." On the other parts of the carpet are also used Da Vinci’s other anatomical
drawings. Leonardo’s fascination with anatomical studies reveals a prevailing artistic
interest of the time.

When visitors are entering the medical training centre they are facing with an
interpretation of a nerve-cell. Onto it’s surface we are suggesting to use video mapping
techniques, so the electrical impulse are visible and the nerve-cell comes alive. With this
technique we are able to project any welcoming texture on any language pre-programmed.
The curved glass walls are creating the atmosphere of twisting and living interior. All the
decorations and furniture are matching with the cutting-edge technology used by our client.
In the auditorium 16 spectator can follow the even a long lasting operation process
process from a very cozy conference seats. Inside the auditorium we placed 2 wood
decorations wall panels. The left side with its hidden motorised technology can reveal an
80 inch HD television or from the ceiling a projector screen can be lowered to crate the
best view even from the back of the room. Live feed can be broadcast form the VR
operating room to here. With a sliding door we crate a quite and discrete connection with
the kitchen, so refreshments and snacks can be served with out any interruption of the
broadcast.

If we walk from the auditorium we find the metamorphosis of the “operating theatre”. These
curved walls hides the VR room and its necessary server and technical support spaces.

We started with freehand sketches based on old operating theatres forms - round auditorium. We also used Photoshop to create the carpet design based on the available high resolution Leonardo da Vinci art works and the "Vitruvian Man". To develop the complete design package we used Auto-cad and for the visuals we used 3D max and Vray.

Our client was very happy with the result, hopefully it will be realised in the near future. It was a great experience how to connect the past with the future, we spend a great amount of time to create this amazing custom made carpet design. It was a quite hard challenge to find the right suppliers to meet the exceptionally high design standards of our client.
