Miniature Cars Series by Ashraful Arefin

Talented Bangladesh based artist Ashraful Arefin is back with his project. His whole miniature car project is all about his childhood memories and those nostalgic moments. He used to play with little toy cars when he was a little boy and when he saw some of these toy cars, it immediately evoked those childhood moments. So he wanted to portray that feeling through these photos and tried to create a visual story through them.

The main inspiration for this project is of course those little cars! It was really wonderful to see how a little toy car could evoke such nostalgia and memories. They seemed like persons rather than some objects to me, I wanted to bring characters in them by adding atmosphere and colours.

I’d call my style as something very simple, atmospheric and a bit monochromatic. I don’t use so many objects, most of the time its only one focused subject. And I also like to use one key colour most of the time for my photos rather than using many colours. I’ve been very much inspired by the beauty of little things in our lives, so I tend to find simple little things and try to turn them into something special and emotive. I believe that it’s the little things that make us happy.

It’s hard for me to pick a few favourite artists as there are so many! Still I can quote few of them, I very much admire the works of Brooke Shaden, Oleg Oprisco, Elena Shumilova and Laurent Chehere. Many times I got inspired by the photos which are totally different from my genre.

The one advice I’d like to give anyone is that nobody can do it like you will do, so don’t think about what your style should be, or if your photos are good enough or people would like them or not… just follow your heart, create what you really want to create, make mistakes, learn from it and try again… most importantly have fun with your creation!
