‘Modernism’ is a project illustrator Maria Giemza did shortly after graduating from Architecture school, though already knowing that she wanted to devote herself to illustration. This little series of illustrations is a tribute to her favorite movement in architecture.

These buildings are, in many cases, not considered as valuable architecture, often become forgotten, counting on mercy of passing time. They hide their beauty in highly functional design, constructed of simple forms. I knew that the style of illustrations themselves needs to be minimalist and clear as well. That’s why I decided to draw them in flat perspective in soft, muted color tones.

Having my roots in different field than illustration and graphic design I think I have quite an experimental approach to my work and style. Constantly exploring and being inspired by everything that surrounds me from architecture to nature.

I am no expert in giving advice, but the one I have is just, Go for it! It is really important to follow your gut feelings, so if you have even the tiniest idea, just let it grow and see what will come out of it.
