The project is a 50 years old commercial building located in Phayathai, downtown area of Bangkok. The weathering architecture, once used as a residence to its owner, is being renovated into a shared office space and micro art gallery. It took around one year to redesign and one and a half for the renovation process.

The feature construction materials we use in this project is steel. The steels were used in the flooring system of the second and third floor of the building and also as the frames of windows and doors. At this point, we still keep the original walls and beam but add drywalls and steel beams to strengthen the previous structure. We decide that we prefer to customize our furniture and re-use some old materials rather than buying new ones.

The old wood planks were brought in and cut into desired pieces to recreate the Herringbone flooring system. A side table was made of waste materials like wood and steels. The large red transparent acrylic cabinet are installed under the stairs as a minibar for the renters and their guests. The same material sliding doors also added up to cover the objects inside. Giving the impressive reflection and more depth to the spaces.

The first setback we have encountered are the low ceiling of the original building construction itself. Other obstructions can also be seen in any weathering houses, such as leaking water, flooding, poor natural lights approaching and unable to flow winds.

We removed the flooring system of the second floor as we pulled down in front of the building to create an open void, making a doubled space at the entrance area to bring more natural light and spacious space. The façade made of steels was designed to represent different planes and layers as the visitors approached the site. We also change the position of stairs, restroom and reconstruct another one on the second floor.

Each old building despite their uniqueness, has their own complications as our studio finds they are rather challenging more than hard. The result is pleasing and unlocked another boundary for all of us
