When a person transmits his/her work with his/her hands it’s very difficult to make the same movement twice, even trying the most specific recreation of the same action turns into something impossible but not necessarily frustrating.

A handcraft is one of this unique movements, it can only be done once. It is possible to repeat a process but the result will always be different, that’s what makes it so special.

This Chair is made with colored palm leafs and wood (ash). I decided to use this wood do to its flexibility characteristics but at the same time great resistance; this natural fibers are flexible but when weave they become strong enough to hold a person and comfortable for anyone to use; that’s what I want this chair´s message to be, to awake curiosity on the user, sit and feel.

I decided to build this chair because of the great story behind it, when working in collaboration with handcraft man we achieved to create a link between an industrial process and also a handcraft, in other words, this chair can be manufactured in a large scale but at the same time, every single one would be different in some small detail.

I´m searching to tell users where she comes from and how she was made, invite people to sit and make them question themselves how and why; I think that the most important point is when we realize how relevant and valuable our traditions are.

Nasa Chair creates empathy with users do to the fact that it was thought and meant to be enjoyed as a piece that brings comfort and beauty at the same time, I'm grateful to have worked with so many people on this project, most importantly I was able to learn more about how we behave as humans more than how to build furniture.

Luckily, this chair won the first place award on Dimueble 2013 national furniture competition in Mexico, the entire process was in collaboration with FSG Furniture Mexico and Ceferino a palm webbing handcraft man.

I believe we need to turn back and use our roots, traditions and handcraft skills in order to create new shapes and stories that represents us; it’s our identity and we must be proud of it.
