I was asked to develop the visual identity of a guest house in Sintra, Portugal, named Nooks. Nooks is a small guest house located in the magical Sintra village, 30 minutes from Lisbon, where you can absorb the good vibes of the nature, and find peace and inspiration.

The logo is inspired by the small houses that make up the urban fabric of Sintra, and tries to encapsulate all the beauty that makes it special and magical. The ideia was to contain in a house all the magic of Sintra. For those reasons I figure that the "house", as a graphic element had to be present.
As for the style, I tried to go for something with a rustic, hand made feeling to it, in just one color (black) on the stationery because the client was on a tight budget.

I always began a project with a pencil and a notebook, and this was no exception. After a handfull of drafts, I pass it on to the computer. Then I used Illustrator for most of the work, such as selection of the typography, color pallete and final composition. For that rustic feeling I used masks on Photoshop.

I think people are responding very well to the logo. The client was very happy with it and the house has been always busy since it open! So I guess that's always a good sign, isn't it? And, of course, I had the opportunity to learn a lot more about Sintra and it's special secret places!
