Pastafarian is a conceptual pasta brand that takes inspiration from reggae culture. It is a pasta brand that was designed to break traditions in the pasta category. Pastafarian uses modern pastel colours and big punchy type to give the brand standout.

When the name came to me, i was surprised that nothing actually existed in the world of pasta called Pastafarian. I looked at what conventions there were in the pasta category and most brands try to show provenance by using the italian flag and by using lots of crests and serif typefaces. I chose to do the opposite by using very bold colours, big typography and use no photography or illustration.

Most of the project was visualised on Photoshop and designed in Illustrator. I made the business cards using GF Smith Colorplan paper which was triplexed (green, yellow and red) to give a nice chunky feel to the cards. This was the only part of the project i physically created.

It's had a great response, the project is a little trendier than the work I usually do. So it was nice to create something different. To make playful type work in a small area is a little tricky, but the brand allowed me the flexibility to move the characters about and rotate them to fit an area of any size.
