Roy David of Ray David Studio's project "Personetics Office" is a commissioned project, it is a 750sqm space situated inside a newly renovated building, proposed by the studio as a Business Hub was designed in such a way that it will adapt to the work style and habits of the 52 employees. The use of transparent or semi-transparent materials along with the equilibrium between industrial and classical elements was the main directions that our overall design approach had.

The overall division of the space was according to the Personetics firm’s needs. Thus, at the ground floor we proposed the public functions, containing the kitchen and dining area along with the main conference room while at the upper floors there can be found the private working stations. All of the main functions of the office are centred around a 2 storey open entrance, its aim is to visually create a linkage, accentuating the interdependence between the public and private functions.

The client’s brief was the main inspiration, as it is always most important to listen and understand the needs of the client firm. We tackle our design language with the outmost respect toward the branding, identity and core values that the client company has. In the case of the Personetics office, it was that linkage, inter dependency between the firm and its clients that made us design the space in such a way, accentuating the industrial staircase and rooting the main functions around it.

Inspiration is always there in front of your eyes, all you need to do is listen and observe. In this case the brief was the most important inspirational factor that we had in designing the office. From the relationship the office had to have with its workers to the firm’s identity.

In every project we take there is a constant search in finding the right approach for designing a space that combines in a fluid way industrial elements, reinterpreted modernism along with classical furniture details. O top of all this the overall design approach has to fit perfectly to the clients core values and identity.

In the second part of the question the important aspect is not "who" but "what". Inspiration is something we take very seriously, we charge our creative batteries always being aware and present. Observing daily life and seeing/ understanding how and why people interact with each other or with design, infrastructure on a daily basis. We are not afraid to question, rethink and not take things for granted.

We always tackle our design approach with a clean, modernistic and industrial design language. Our design trajectory is based on finding the right dosage of these three main aspects we use when designing.

When it comes to your work, there is always a pressure you feel from surrounding factors. Either other designers who have a different opinion than yours or difficult clients that are very hard to please. What is important in all this is to always trust yourself and your capabilities. If there is passion for what you do and if that thing makes you get out of bed ecstatic in the morning than you are on the right path. :)
