Graphic Designer, Michael Dolejs' Playstation Mobile was inspired after creating the main screen as a part of Dribble Rebound. He proceeded with the project after seeing a lack of improvement from the Sony Playstation's Mobile App. Let's see what came up with below.

The project actually started about a year ago, when I created the first version for fun with my friend (here). I decided to continue with the design as the current PlayStation mobile app still looks the same year ago and I thought I could do something about it. I think the app deserves more attention since it has lot of great functionality, that just doesn’t look very good. My redesign is focusing only on the mains screens and serves as a design study on what could be done with the brand forward.

I tried to blend the existing Playstation design language, so the concept is evolution of their elements, mixed with my ideas. Apart from the visual design, I focused on how the app looks on each platform – iOS in this case. Current version doesn’t respect the basic guidelines and that’s why it’s so confusing.

My inspiration besides making it better was also to practice more in Sketch, that I recently started using more for my client projects. I wanted to create something more complex, as I am still exploring all the functionality of this tool, but it’s undeniable that Sketch has lot of great features for future of UI Design.

I searched for similar Playstation Redesign before I started, but haven’t found anything similar to what I wanted to do. The whole process took about two weeks as I was working on it between my client stuff until I ended up with something I really liked. It would be great if other designers will try something too, as I’m sure everyone has the same opinion about the current app.

I’m always trying to experiment with different styles in all the different areas I work in and it doesn’t matter if it is digital, print design or anything else. I always like when the design is bit more complex and layered, but still visually balanced, which I think can be seen in most of my work. My advice for anyone starting would be doing lot of side projects, learning new things and looking everywhere around you to get inspiration, not just online.
