Portraits 02 by Yuschav Arly
I made this project in purpose of learning and searching, i honestly kind of bored with doing some detail vector face portrait and want to play more outside that area, but rather than making some detail clothes or any other part outside the face area, I want to play with more simplicity and some element. I also did a little experiment to compare the time i spent between making a vector on illustrator or same vector technique on photoshop with a little help from eraser/brush without making it looks much different than the rest (it does save times on PS!). The main idea is to not spending hours for doing a detailed portrait like I used to, which is getting repetitive and boring.

I realize from my previous portrait series that I’m not really good at making ‘something’ or some details outside the face area, so in this series I challenge myself to make some improvement by playing with lines, negative space and the doodle-style-lines that I got from my previous job at Deus.

Well, right now I don’t think I have some specific kind of style, every time I see something new, I try to dig something out of it, try to improve it and do a little editing on my mind, when I can imagine how the finished piece looks like, I grab my pen, do a quick sketch and put it into my to-do list. There’s so many inspirational artists out there, 2 of my favourite are Dan Luvisi and Dika Toolkit, not just their artworks but it’s their journey and hard work which is really motivated and inspired me the most.

I have this favorite quotes tattooed on my hand “You can have whatever you are willing to struggle for”, I can only say, keep daydreaming, make plans out of it, and fight for it until your dreams come true (don’t give up in the middle!) :)
