Davide Bonazzi's project "Portraits" is a series of celebrity portraits he made for fun. The project was aimed to hone and enhance his skills, trying out new techniques along the way. Davide has illustrated various celebrities you will probably recognize.

This project is just a collection of celebrities' portraits I made in the last 2 years. I did them just for fun. Since I'm focused in conceptual illustration, I tried to place some conceptual features in the people I was drawing. That's why you can see a monkey in the beard of Darwin, or the face of Massimo Vignelli made with the NYC subway map.

I started studying graphic design and illustration pretty late, when I was 25 years old. Before I studied Arts & Humanities both at high school and at the university. Then I studied at IED in Milan and at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna. Meanwhile I had some collaborations with some Italian magazines and newspapers. The turning point in my career happened when I started working in the US market.

I'd say my style is clear, conceptual and sometimes surreal. I try to get impact concepts and represent them with a warm and evocative atmosphere using textures made from scanned found objects. Many illustrators and artists inspired my work, such as Guy Billout, Beppe Giacobbe, Emiliano Ponzi, Shout, Tatsuro Kiuchi, Mark Smith, Noma Bar, Alex Katz, David Hockney, René Magritte, Edward Hopper and many others.

Just keep pursuing your goals with all your strength because it's a very competitive field, and keep having pleasure in doing art. Be humile, think yourself not as an artist, but as a visual communicator. Never stop learning, never feel accomplished. The more visual culture you have, the more your work will be good. Be yourself, take inspiration from everyone, but don't imitate anyone.
