Yoyo Zhao project "Ramen Animals" is actually an upgrade from one of her early project called ‘Ramen friends’. Yoyo just love ramen too much and with ramen, she always love to eat with friends. Ramen isn’t something to eat alone for her, she finds it more enjoyable eating with friends. Doesn’t everyone? So she had imagined animals and alien friends eating ramen.

This project the animals are in the bowl instead of them holding it. Well, this came from one of my other project called ‘Sheep, Sheep, Sheep and bunny’ and one of the piece was about them eating ramen. "How do you eat ramen? A with chopsticks; B hide inside, C suck it; D poke it" so I imagine miniature animations eating ramen, because they are small (and of course they love it), they like to wrap themselves in there.

At the moment maybe cute? For this project especially. My drawings used to be a lot darker and more surreal! As I have said many times before my imagination is my inspiration, and my imagination is a tower of things piling up, things I’ve heard and seen from my everyday life/past experience. They settle down in my brain and wait for their turn to come out!

Here’s a tiny list of people whom I admire, they are my continuous influence for life - Roald Dahl (Writer), Hayao Miyazaki (director/animator), Eiichiro Oda (Manga artist), Grayson Perry(Artist), Soda Green (Taiwanese Indie band).

Aww yes! Well I guess the obvious but most important advice would be to try draw as much as possible. Experiment on different mediums, do locations drawings and life drawings! Don’t limit yourself!
