Allan Revah's project was established over a decade ago in the heart of the west village, Rockin' Raw was one of the first restaurants to introduce a full-on ‘raw food' menu. Having gone through a few unsuccessful brandings in the past by prior designers, Rockin' Raw approached Allan to give it one last try in order to draw in the more young and hip demographic living within the village.

I believe that true design is like true love and therefore, you must do what is best for the client. In this case, the best for the owner of rockin raw was to place major emphasis on the word ‘raw’ being that there are ONLY two raw food restaurants in the New York City!

I was recently listening to an Interview of Bob Gill by Debbie Millman and learnt during the talk that he felt designers today lacked their own opinion in their work. By that he meant ‘Voice’.
And so, as I started drawing and perfecting the sketches of some vegetables for this project; I realized the vegetables were too perfect, they weren't raw and that my own voice was completely lost in perfected lines. SO, I went back to the original sketches and said ‘Screw it” I’m going to use the first the rough sketches”. Because, those were me, those where was raw.

The day you will find that one special project to which the solution aligns perfectly with your own voice, is the day you step-out of being just another designer and ultimately find meaning as an artist. And that is like finding your soulmate. It takes time, but she/he will come.
