Ciao Orio’s Self-Help poster is a series of fake medicines that promises certain and immediate results. Because of celebrities, our society right now became so much fascinated and addicted to looking beautiful or even perfect. Suddenly, there was a surge of beauty products in the market, let’s take a look at Ciao’s illustration and see whether one of these could help us.
Self-Help Poster is a personal project about beauty products, self-help industry and the common sense things we hear every day.
I was creating an illustration for a project called Everyweek, the theme was stress. We all know about the stressing lifestyle the big cities demand and how these issues turn into big opportunities for the health industry. So I started drawing these fake medicine packs with the promise of a perfect life.
I like the way some old medicine packs were designed and how some of them keep the same until today. I see a strong modernist heritage on it with its “neutral” typography use, solid colors and this sober/clean environment they evoke. I got really inspired by these products design and kinda made fun of it. My inspirations (for this project) are self-help articles that I see every day in my facebook timeline and the mindfulness movement industry. (I myself paid an expensive rate to learn to meditate).
Trust yourselves, ignore the naysayers and don’t take pills. 🙂
