Molokid's "Serving Fish Series" is a series of handmade collages that mix gorgeous pin-up women and the great sea world to create a new and exciting world. In the Drag Queen world a "Fishy" drag queen is the one who creates the female illusion at its best. Polished, feminine, perfect. He wanted to translate that term literally and create this new world where all women are fishy! They have fish fins, crab claws and even tentacles! And they all live in these gorgeous realms.

I came up with this idea because I´m a huge fan of the Drag world and I wanted to represent it my way. I chose very bright colours and all women are from the 50s: Very glamorous and elegant. Both styles work perfectly together.

It is all done by handmade collage. I bought this great Sea World book and fell in love with it. Then I came up with the idea of the "Serving Fish" series. I was very careful with the pictures I chose. And then it was all about playing with them. Cutting, pasting, cutting again, painting again! It was a fun game.

People responded very good. It is great to be given the opportunity to explain it because many of them don´t really know the true story behind it. It is good to know that behind what you see at first sight, slides a whole new world of meanings and stories. This is just the front door to them.

About Molokid

Molokid’s collection feels like a labyrinth. It’s a maze that one travels through, exploring different realms and various layers of art and the human state. The Argentinean graphic designer’s collection is so powerful it causes a feeling of uncertainty. It’s very aware of the things that make us human, our flesh, bones, muscles, and even the plants we consume that give us oxygen. It suggests this by constantly fragmenting and dividing bodies with graphics or graphing paper. It also denies the observer a full view of a body. But the collection goes further than just skin deep. It’s a mindful eye observing sociology, psychology, and philosophical theory. Molokid’s work manages to be both contradicting and ironic. It questions many things about society and our obsession with pop culture. The collages commonly include vintage cameras and reels of film. In some collages a camera replaces the human head. Through Molokid’s lens we are a self-consumed society. We are also a very sexual society and Molokid frequently reminds the observer of that. The female body is often up for observation – not all of it, just pieces. His work watches the world with a voyeuristic eye. This approach lurks within various shapes, colors, materials and body parts and challenges the viewer to find and understand the correlation. Molokid offers observers a glimpse into his world and as expected with any artist, not everything is bright and cheery. In fact, it feels downright dystopian at times. His art is filled with reminders that despite all of our power – technology, guns, etc – we’re all going to die. That fact is inevitable. Molokid’s work is jolting and it challenges your mind, as any great art should. The observer is required to think, wonder, question, and most importantly pause, which is a hope for any artist.
