Corgi or Welsh Corgi is a small type of herding dog that originated in Wales. Two distinct breeds are recognized: the Pembroke Welsh corgi and the Cardigan Welsh corgi, with the Pembroke being the more common. One of the most notable Corgi owner is Queen Elizabeth II, she has kept a number of corgis in her retinue, typically four and once as many as thirteen. Her first corgi was called Susan. She currently keeps two corgis who are about twelve years old. Some portraits of Queen Elizabeth II include a corgi.

This was a personal project, I really liked the look of Welsh Corgi. I personally think they look cuter when they're sleeping, thus the project, "sleeping corgi". I've been sketching since 2014 but normally the medium that I always use is clay. I make three-dimensional characters, but sketching takes a special place in my heart so it was fun to make this project.

As I've said, I really liked these dogs and they look so adorable sleeping so started with that. I searched the internet for photos of sleeping Corgis so that's basically where I got the structure and the look of the illustration.

I would describe my style like the Pixar animation. Sort of a realistic cartoon. One of my greatest inpiration is character designer "Peter de Seve", an American artist who has worked in the illustration and animation fields. He has drawn many covers for the magazine The New Yorker.

The best advice I can give to aspiring artist is to work hard and probably study English. Hahaha! :)

  1. I have tried to reach out to Kim Sung Jae several times but he does not respond to email. does anyone have any experience working with him? I would love to work with him.

  2. Sleeping Corgi-
These sketches are very cute, lovely, and playful.
I think the sketches are also very well drawn.
I hope it becomes a comic character one day and, if it does, I would love to read it.
