Slight Shell Structure is a unique looking project by Paris based Architect Hydrane Lo. Hydrane was tasked to design a market hall from a model of framework. The idea was to create a structure that would maximize the light from the sun into the structure to provide a one of a kind lighting.

This project was realized when I was in 2nd year of License. Pretty earlier in my studies. When I didn't control very well simplicity in architecture expression. The subject was to create a new framework in the idea to put it on an imaginary site (but that work was in a second time, you can see it on my website too, its name is A CURIOUS SITE).

My first intention as to create an asymmetric structure because the light is not the same from the south to the north. Logically I had to develop two different expressions in my building so consequently in my framework's drawing there's no symmetry. I had several inspirations.but I wanted something organic which can remind the shell of an animal. Also, I took pain on what kind of light quality people in there would be subdued. So I sketched a lot to find a form which permits light to reflect on the cover and let enter the light indirectly. A little bit like Venetian blinds.

I watched Shed frameworks, i liked the lightness of Polonceau's, and I wanted my structure to start from the flat a little bit like Mansart's frameworks which give the best height. Also animal's shell, Venetian blinds as I said... My project is a mix of all those images.

Boldness/Audacity? I think that's what sets me apart from others. (I don't know the right word, Reverso is a little bit confuse sometime). I love architects from Switzerland because of there simplicity I never come to get. My style is very complicated and demented but beautiful in its sense. My art is distorted but that's not a problem I love make it like that. In architecture, things have to be at least rational and controlled. In a way, I choose these studies to tame and give a concrete sense to my art work.

Hydrane Lo is a 26-year-old, state-certified architect since February 2015 from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris-Belleville. She's been drawn to art since she was young and she'll always draw for the rest of her life. Architecture to her, is a way to inscribe art with concrete sense of gravity and conditions.
