This is an initiative of Publimark Mullen Lowe, the advertising agency where I work. The idea was to imagine how it would be to have the “Sport Games” organized in the happiest country of the world, Costa Rica. The idea was to design each of the 7 provinces, and I was given the task to develop Cartago city.

Cartago is a Costa Rican small province full of richness: its people, flora & fauna, history and colonial architecture. As an “elected” city to organize the 2016 Games its logo was designed unifying Cartago’s most important historical icons.

The Basílica, Turrialba Volcano and Cachí’s Dam were surrounded by a sphere from Guayabo’s National Monument, achieving a powerful synthesis, elegant and with a lot of movement. Each icon was created with 5 lines as a tribute to the 5 Games rings.

Once designed the logo, I rescued other relevant icons from Cartago, but this time to transform them into little mosaics, that together formed a pattern, as aesthetic as the mosaic floors found in the city in a diversity of architectural works.

With this pattern as a graphic base, I had fun giving life to different materials that are fundamental to make Cartago’s 2016 Games a reality.

As a designer, I started with brainstorming initial ideas about the theme via Paper app. The Adobe software package is the base of almost all of my work. For this particular project, I used Illustrator CC, Animate CC and Photoshop CC. The images presenting the design were made on Photoshop.

People have responded amazingly, it is unreal to see so much positive support for my first logo collection.

The logo gained wide interest and the branding has been selected to participate in the Gallery of Behance in the Graphic Design Category and that helped me reach a larger audience from there. I look forward to doing another project with a similar impact.
