Graphic designer Jason Pun's Spotify Redesign Concept really just came out of his own issues with the Spotify application that he uses daily to listen to music. However, this was also the first time he'd ever attempted UI/UX design, but, he felt the medium fit his overall design style. Honestly, he didn't think it was much of a challenge to translate his ideas and create something that Jason thought matched the vision he had for his ideal version of the app but it did take him some time to get specific elements the way he wanted. In the end, he felt he was able to create a cleaner user experience that also improved interactions within the interface.

The main goal of the design was to clean up what I felt was a huge mess in the existing application. The current release features large texts with lots of scrolling, featuring very little open space, something that I feel is a very important part of design and especially UI/UX. The player section was another huge focus for me. I opened the area up by placing the music playback bar above, allowing more space for other important information and most importantly allowed song information to be displayed in the middle, where it belongs. With a set goal in mind I carried out my idea and arrived at the product that is presented today.

A huge inspiration for this project was Tom Koszyk's Apple Music Redesign. I loved what he did with that project, he had a clear vision set in mind which extended far behind providing a better visual experience. His Redesign was what inspired me to start this project and tackle redesigning the Spotify app.

I feel like my Redesign creates a more visually appealing experience that also improves the interactions that the application provides. A large criticism of Spotify has always been its failure to help user's discover new music. Spotify does have these features but fails to display them in a way in which users can easily access them. I think the real edge of my concept is the simplicity of it, it does a lot while being minimalistic and understated. A large contributing factor to this in my opinion is clean type work which often times I feel can be overlooked or the make or break element to similar redesign concepts.

My style has changed a lot since I first started designing. Though I feel like my style now is definitely a cleaner, more minimalistic aesthetic, having worked in various communities have given me a diverse palette that I can explore from project to project. Interestingly, a lot of the people I admire are illustrators, though I've never been able to make the step there myself. I'm a huge fan Jorgen Grotdal and Joshua Smith.

It's hard for me to feel confident or even credible to give out advice given my age and lack of seniority in this industry but I think something really important is to stay humble. Asking for advice and opinions from peers is crucial if you want to improve on your own skills. If you think everything you do is perfect you leave no room for yourself to improve not only your products but also your own standards in the future. Most of my elements are in the image I posted on Behance, I can send you certain things individually, just let me know what you might want. Sorry if I wrote a bit too much!
