Shane Griffin's "Strange Reactions" was a project that happened gradually over the past few months, when he had some downtime at work, he created these little experiments, and rendered them overnight as he only had 1 machine. Most of the video are actually a first pass, he didn't go back to reanimate any of the scenes. He liked this concept of unexpected reactions of surfaces, (imagine concrete rippling like water, or rock hard feathers etc), and used that as a staring point, from which it got very far away from!

I originally started making looping gifs in a illustrated style eventually I began to translate them to a more 3D physical style. For some reason, I started each vignette with just the color palette, and built it from there, rather than with an actual goal or design in mind. It was a quite fun to work like that! A lot of the techniques I had used before in other projects, so I tried to string them all together with a similar aesthetic.

I didn't really have a particular inspiration, it was more of a personal challenge to see what I could do with 1 machine in my spare time, and testing my abilities technically. I enjoy people not being able to figure my work out, haha!

My style is definitely heavily influenced by geometry and architecture, so inspiration is everywhere. When I started out, I leaned on street art for colors and composition influence, lately I seem to be drawn more toward fashion and photography for shapes and lighting. NYC is an ever evolving stream of influence.
