Vania B started sharing illustrated jokes with her friends until one of them told her to create a Facebook fanpage. Initially, she did it just to keep in touch with them but then random people started liking her posts and the page got really popular.
Firstly I decided upon a color palette to keep give my illustrations a common thread, something that would tie them all together, but then it’s all about isolating good ideas and putting them in to an image and on screen!
I draw the funny things I hear from my friends, and the silly things I say to them. People seem to like that because I think they can relate to it, and if that can help them to have a nicer day, that’s awesome.
My style is called ‘Kawaii’, that means cute in Japanese (if you aren’t aware). I’m have been a huge fan of hello kitty since I was a kid and I always thought to myself “I want to illustrate like that”. I also love superheroes, which is where the inspiration for my nickname as an illustrator comes from. I think I see myself as a kind of superhero, and my special power is making people happy through the medium of illustration!
Create until you can’t feel your hands or your brain hurts and then do it again… and then… do it again. Practicing will help you to find your style and constantly improve.
