Tadao Ando Azuma House by Jay Patel
Jay Patel's project was a personal piece to study lighting, shader building and camera compositions/lenses which would otherwise be very restricting to experiment with in a commercial project.
He wanted to mainly try out some prime lens focal lengths and also the in engine depth of field effect. The modeling was carried out in 3Ds Max and rendered using Corona Renderer.
The design was fairly straight forward as I found the base model for Tadao Andos Azuma House via Sketchups 3D Warehouse website. I then rebuilt everything over the existing geometry as I wanted more control on the unwrapping and chamfering of edges for added realism. Assets used were from BBB3Viz and Dimensiva.

The main inspiration behind this project was Tadao Andos architecture itself and the cinematography of James Hawkinson on NBC's Hannibal. I wanted to try and loosely replicate the colour grading/compositions on 'Hannibal' while still retaining some of the natural colours.

My inspirations in the CGI field would of course be Bertrand Benoit and Alex Roman. Outside of that I am a big fan of film and cinematography.

I'd say put aside time to do personal projects as you can really work on new ideas/techniques without being restricted to budget and time constraints.
