A photography series, 'This Is My Body' by artist Marwane Pallas tackles the issue of religious freedom. This series, according to Marwane is a tribute more than a criticism to the religious speech. He described it as 'cathartic and poetic'.

"This Is My Body" was a series I shot two years ago as a tribute to my earliest inspirations (Caravaggio for instance). It's also a series that aimed to "reclaim" our bodies that were being instrumentalized and censored by religious speeches at that time (many anti-gay marriage demonstrations in France then). I believe France's religious heritage, religious arts, icons, images belong to every citizen. I love the catholic imagery, it's both cathartic and poetic. So this series is as much a tribute to religious art than it is a criticism of the religious speech.

Painters, sculptors are my inspirations, I don't have any big name to give from the photography world.I think my work would be best described as "pictorial". The best advice I can give people is to "Don't listen to other people giving advice". I used a Canon 550 and a remote control for this project.

  1. Powerful and captures your interest immediately. I like the message the artist is portraying as well as how their message translates into the art. Fantastic work!
