The task was designing an identity for the online blog called Urbanbacklog based on "visual impressions about the cities". The blog creates its own content with its own pictures. It doesn't mention about the trending news, all the posts are written for pointing out to a particular and unique matter.
This is why I designed an identity that embraces the content simply yet strong as possible.

Architecture, urban spaces, street art, function change and urban installations are the five main topics. Urbanbacklog aims to create a visual diary about the details we miss in the cities and shares it with short, emphasising texts. The inspiration behind the logo is coming from building structures. The 3D looking "U" sign resembles of architectural forms and details. Then I used a bold serif font in logotype to make a contrast with "U" emblem. The main colour is parliament blue while soft pink is used as the secondary colour.

I used Illustrator CC mostly to design the main structure of the identity, Photoshop CC and Cinema 4D to prepare the presentation and Indesign CC for the editorial elements. I started with creating a unique sign. Then I covered other elements such as business cards, promotional items and lastly I focused on web design and editorial printed materials.

It was so exciting to witness how the blog changed from a plain Tumblr page into a professional-looking website. Readers found it very catchy and inviting. People read less and less every day. So I understood that the support of an identity design to a written content makes it easier to read and exciting to discover.

The context is still the most important part for any kind of project. On the other hand, internet is full of visual distractions. This is why it is so crucial
to have a strong visual identity to actually communicate with people and reach out to a wider crowd.
