Zugasti Records is an upcoming record label and management agency based in Mexico City and Monterrey, Mexico. It's a small and young label that is curating outstanding musical proposals.

Basic Studio helped Zugasti Record to developed a brand identity that evolves around the live music's energy and movement.

The brand's icon was design around two main concepts: a waving flag, and the hidden initial-Z. The flag —as a universal symbol for leadership— merge values as experience and newness.

The visual language's inspiration it's based on movement and constant experimentation. Nonetheless, all the identity is design around a simple layout system. Bold, grotesque and clear typography it's used as a main resource for straightforward communication.

We believe that it's important start sketching early concepts from sketch. There is a natural trace that not any software can interpret that accurate as you are planning.

After a drafting process, we started exploring forms and silhouettes in a minimal context. It's always better having plenty of manual drafts and clean the traces at Illustrator.

The complex fase was to introduce a solid trace —as the initial letter-Z— into a curvy flag. Movement it's a big part of the concept so we wanted to stay in that direction. We came across the final logo, that we truly believe represent leadership at upcoming independent labels.

It has had a great response, especially the posters series. We wanted to design a language that can be replicate independently in several applications, without using the same visual graphics. We learn to find the balance between straightforward communication and conceptual illustrations.
