Alice in Wonderland by Gemma Román

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (commonly shortened to Alice in Wonderland) is an 1865 novel written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. Would you believe it, Alice in Wonderland is celebrating its 150th anniversary?! Yes, that's how long it's been around. Now, illustrator Gemma Román created an illustration in honor of Alice in Wonderland.

This illustration was created for a collective exhibition in Sinaloa, celebrating the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and the beginning of the Wonderland Universe. I'm a big fan of Alice's stories and all the movies that followed years later so I just picked some of my favorites elements and scenes and had a lot of fun playing with them.

One of the greatest things about this project is that it was created to promote reading for children and to celebrate a tradition in Culiacán, in which everybody gives a book to someone else. Encouraging children or any other people to read, was very inspiring while working on it.

I think I'm still developing my style but I love working with textures to add a warmer feeling to digital illustration. I love working with flowers and very colorful elements. I've been inspired by a lot of artists, there's just so much talent, so much diversity. I really admire the work of people in the animation industry like Mingjue Helen Chen and Lorelay Bové and Illustrators like Lorena Alvarez, lettering artists like Jon Contino, Dana Tanamachi etc.

Keep on drawing, sketch everyday, be nice and constructive to other artists and don't give up.
