Animal a day is a simple, spontaneous personal project created by illustrator and visual artist, Sergio Chaves, with the use of the objective of being both a digital painting exercise and a character doodling practice.
I use whatever animal comes to my mind and develop an original drawing from maybe a couple of photo references. I mainly think about portraying the animal's innocence, without "judging" their attitude as good, bad, ugly or evil. As for process, I work them all digitally unless I have a little gestural drawing somewhere that gives me an idea, which I would then scan and paint over it. I use a very limited use of brushes, rarely using more than two.

About Sergio Chaves
Sergio Chaves, illustrator and visual artist. After many years as a draftsman and animator for the advertising industry, Sergio is expanding his body of work into illustration and visual development for children-oriented contents (for small and big children too). His artwork has been featured in specialized magazines and shows in Colombia, Mexico, Argentina and Spain, and reviewed in online illustration media. His visual development for advertising has appeared in campaigns for clients like Ford, Coca-Cola, Visa, and many other world renowned brands.
